This watercolor was painted by my friend Susan Austin at my request. When I gave her daughter guitar lessons, Susan asked what she could pay me, and I asked for a painting. At the time, I had recently visited Spain and was taken by its beauty and also its music. (Yes, I did sit in a plaza and listen to a Spanish guy play guitar.) So when I asked Susan for a painting, I asked for images of Spain, incorporating guitar and scripture. She put me in the painting, too. The painting brings back wonderful memories of Spain, and it is a constant reminder of Susan’s friendship.

Welcome!
I am a writer who loves good music and good stories. It’s been my privilege to combine these loves by writing fiction that honors the creation of beauty, even in the bleakest of circumstances, through the creation of music. Writing has also led me to a deep interest in the recent history of central and eastern Europe.
